There is growing evidence that writing, using carefully designed tasks, can significantly improve emotional well-being. Nicky is trained in Therapeutic and Reflective Writing and can design workshops for small groups to explore issues such as identity, relationships and anxiety.
Based on a model written by Trish Waters, Therapeutic Story Writing involves using metaphor to enable children to explore difficult emotions or experiences. This is run as a ten week course - one hour per week - and allows a safe space for children to work through a range of activities designed to explore emotions such as anger, fear or isolation using character metaphor.
Writing for Well-being is woven through all of the work done by The Words. Depending on the nature of the group and the focus of the session, this may be explicit or subtly incorporated into creative writing tasks. Students will never have to share anything they have written if they would prefer not to.
